PALMYRA - Voters in Palmyra Township voted "no" in a referendum ballot issue Tuesday on a wind ordinance in the township. The vote was 259 "no" to 217 "yes."

PALMYRA - Voters in Palmyra Township voted "no" in a referendum ballot issue Tuesday on a wind ordinance in the township. The vote was 259 "no" to 217 "yes."

Voters had the choice of upholding an ordinance passed by the township board last October regulating wind energy facilities or turbines in the township with a "yes" vote, or voting to nullify the ordinance with a "no" vote.

PALMYRA — At Thursday evening’s regular monthly Palmyra Township meeting, the board discussed excess drain water in the Man-Nor Farms subdivision, ended a firefighter’s probation and verified that a referendum to overturn the recently passed wind energy ordinance will make the ballot.

PALMYRA — In Palmyra Township, the effort to overturn a recently passed wind energy ordinance is gaining momentum, according to resident Laura Van Camp, who on Nov. 8 filed for a petition to get a referendum on the February ballot.

BWE, a partnership between industrial wind energy developer Exelon Wind and local firm Great Lakes Wind, answered many of the public’s questions regarding the proposed Blissfield area wind energy installation and unveiled a tentative project layout for Ogden Township.

RIGA—The effort to bring Riga Township’s recently approved zoning ordinance amendment to a vote was a success. The petition, circulated by pro-wind energy Riga residents, gathered more than twice the number of signatures required to put the issue on the Nov. 8 ballot. The results were certified by the Lenawee County Clerk.

PALMYRA - The Palmyra Township planning commission took two special meetings to finalize a draft zoning ordinance regulating wind energy development in the township.

In a special meeting last Wednesday night at the Blissfield American Legion, the Riga Township board finalized language on a zoning ordinance amendment regulating the development of industrial wind energy in Riga Township. There were cheers and applause from many in the audience when the board approved the ordinance proposed by the Riga planning commission with an additional restriction.

RIGA — The Riga Township board was caught off guard by a crowd of nearly 300 people that showed up for Thursday night’s special meeting at the Riga Fire Hall. 

The meeting has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 6,in the Blissfield American Legion.

      According to village administrator Jim Wonacott, the wiring for 
new LED street lights is taking place “as we speak,” and the new 
lights will be installed from the U.S. 223 bridge all the way down to 
Lena’s restaurant.
