WHITEFORD – Flooding causes many headaches to those affected by it. Basements are ruined, personal possessions run the risk of being lost forever, and one’s property sees sometimes irreversible damage. But since most of the people reading these words live in a state surrounded by the Great Lakes and with the River Raisin running through the area, flooding is a reality.

But imagine living most of your life on a piece of property that never saw any flooding, or very little if at all, and being told you need to purchase flood insurance on the off chance the waters could rise. If the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) gets its way, literally hundreds of people in Monroe County would have to do just that.
