PALMYRA — Palmyra Township residents will vote May 8 on a referendum of the township’s Wind Turbine Ordinance passed late last year that would allow the development of wind energy in the township if it stands as approved by the board last fall.

Wind developers look to mid-Michigan

Wind energy developer Blissfield Wind Energy, is pursuing development opportunities in Gratiot and Ionia counties after more than a year spent trying to gain sufficient land and support for the Blissfield Wind Energy project.

PALMYRA — At Thursday evening’s regular monthly Palmyra Township meeting, the board discussed excess drain water in the Man-Nor Farms subdivision, ended a firefighter’s probation and verified that a referendum to overturn the recently passed wind energy ordinance will make the ballot.

Schools cope with reduced funding

Midway through the school year, local school districts are doing what they can to deal with the $1 billion dollar education cut passed by state legislators over the summer — which translates to $470 per pupil in lost funding. Eyewitness report: BRIDGE IS OPEN

The water level of the River Raisin in Blissfield has dropped from than a foot since a crest of 685.62, the second-highest level since records have been kept, to 684.18 at the 10 a.m. reporting on the U.S. government website today.

Also, April Wolfe, who works at Blissfield Insurance Agency, Inc., next to the flooded river, reports traffic began moving at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, the first movement on the bridge since it was closed late Wednesday afternoon as the floodwaters were rising.

Marks, Clark elected in Ogden; Riga affirms wind ordinance

Ogden Township's interim supervisor and clerk earned their jobs for a full term Tuesday, Nov. 8, handily winning the seats they have held since being appointed after a recall of their predecessors. And Riga Township residents affirmed the wind ordinance approved by their township board.

Ogden Township's interim supervisor and clerk earned their jobs for a full term Tuesday, Nov. 8, handily winning the seats they have held since being appointed after a recall of their predecessors. And in Riga Township, voters said "yes" to reaffirming the wind ordinance their township board passed this summer.

In Tuesday's election in Ogden Township, Richard Marks won the supervisor's seat he has filled on an interim basis since his predecessor was recalled earlier this year over challenger Kevin DeCatur by a vote of 309-177.
