Bleak was a good way to describe Whiteford’s chances of beating Madison on Jan. 11. Even on their home court the Lady Bobcats were, at one point in the second quarter, down 21-6.

Despite only having six girls, half of them freshmen, dress for Thursday’s contest, the Britton Deerfield Patriots girls basketball team coasted to an easy win over the Whitmore Lake Trojans. The Patriots soundly defeated the Whitmore Lake Trojans 68-27 at Whitmore Lake.

The Lady Royals from Blissfield face Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central in Thursday night’s district final at Dundee.

The game starts at 7 p.m.

Blissfield pounded Erie-Mason 25-14, 25-6 and 26-24, getting contributions from all over the lineup.

Blissfield pounded Erie-Mason 25-14, 25-6 and 26-24, getting contributions from all over the lineup.

In game one, the Royals had three, four and five-point runs early to take a 13-3 lead.  Blissfield gave up two-point runs just twice in the game. Captain Ashley LaRoy and Laura Goetz each had three kills. Celia Coopshaw, Taylor Jacob and captain Zoe Brennan each had two kills.

Blissfield rebounded from its first LCAA loss of the season in convincing fashion Wednesday night. Playing a game that was rescheduled after last week’s power failure, the Royals hosted Erie Mason one night after getting swept at Onsted.

The Lady Royals (12-5-3, 3-1 LCAA) took it out on the Screaming Eagles, sweeping their LCAA rivals 25-21, 25-15 and 25-19.

The Blissfield varsity volleyball team was impressive in their LCAA-opening win over Dundee at home Thursday night. The Royals were dominant at times in a 25-15, 25-16, 25-21 victory.

“This was much better,” said coach Sandi Porter, who thought her team lacked energy and consistency in previous outings. “I really liked the way we hit the ball today.”

The Blissfield varsity volleyball team was impressive in their LCAA-opening win over Dundee at home Thursday night. The Royals were dominant at times in a 25-15, 25-16, 25-21 victory.

In particular, she called out the work of middle hitters Celia Coopshaw and Zoe Brennan. She also said Ashley LaRoy and Laura Goetz did a nice job landing spikes.

Coach Sandi Porter and the Royals caught a glimpse of the team’s potential at the Blissfield Invitational Volleyball tournament Saturday.

The Royals (7-3-1) went 4-2 at the tournament, losing both matches, including the championship, to Adrian Madison.

Blissfield went 2-1 in pool play, defeating Michigan Center (25-13, 15-19) and Britton-Deerfield (15-16, 15-15) and losing to Madison (26-27, 19-25).
