The start-up club may take some time to get on its feet, but with the support of the school and the community, head coach Dennis Southwell is confident it will take off.

The Lenawee County Athletic Association is welcoming two more high schools into the conference. The LCAA executive council voted to accept Hillsdale and Columbia Central beginning with the 2012 fall sports season.

The Blissfield High School athletic department welcomed seven new members into the BHS Hall of Fame during a ceremony Saturday evening in the high school cafeteria. Seven people with diverse athletic backgrounds were inducted for their contributions to Blissfield sports.

New Blissfield High School wrestling coach Andrew Ford wants to see the Royals’ grapplers build on the success they’ve had in recent years. Ford, a 2006 graduate of Blissfield who is graduating this month from Adrian College and seeking to begin a career as a teacher, believes several Blissfield wrestlers have a chance to go to the state finals this year.

On Saturday, Blissfield honored the very best of the best, during the 2010 Blissfield High School Athletic Hall of Fame banquet. Click here to read about it and see videos from the event.

More than 100 people were in attendance as the Blissfield Athletic Hall of Fame inducted five individuals and two teams at a Blissfield High School Banquet Saturday night.

Inducted were Claude Sebring, Tom Billington, Gary Lombard, Beth Berry, Kyle Knoblauch and the 1976 and 1977 state champion baseball teams.

Emcee Gary Brink opened the evening by telling the audience that high school sports were more than “only a game.”

The Blissfield-Whiteford junior varsity football game scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 1, has been moved to a 7 p.m. start. The game was originally scheduled for 6 p.m.

"Fore the safety of the players, the time has been changed to allow for the sun (from 6 to 7 p.m. to drop and for the temperature to go down," wrote Athletic Director Steve Babbitt in an e-mail sent out Tuesday afternoon. 

With the Blissfield varsity soccer team in action behind the middle school, and the middle school holding its open house, football fans are asked to park in the high school parking lot.
