Blissfield High School celebrated Coming Home last week. A highlight of the week-long festivities was Friday night’s game and the half-time crowning of Shaunna Isakson and Alex Seidl as Coming Home queen and king.

Homecoming week at Blissfield was filled with spirit week activities and fun including an event when BHS homecoming queen candidates fed the king candidates in a pie-eating contest. The annual parade through town featured the band, floats, youth teams, alumni, king and queen candidates, last year's king and queen Eric Schmidt and Cierra Sell and more. BHS floats were the winning Freshmen “Too Fast, Too Fresh.” The Royals lost a heartbreaker on the football field, 15-14 to Onsted, on a rainy evening Sept. 30.

Local 4H youth are busy showing their animals throughout the week and displaying their other 4H projects.
The fair continues through Saturday with grandstand shows, carnival, fair food, merchant displays and more. The following week is the Monroe County Fair.

Though much of the week found students snowbound at home, they were back in school for the pep events Friday including an Iron Man volleyball game.

BRITTON -- Britton’s homecoming half-time ceremony Friday night was highlighted by the crowning of this year’s fall royalty but the festivities included a salute to some notable grid teams from years past. The homecoming was celebrated as Britton’s with new partner Deerfield reserving a later date for its separate homecoming.

Blissfield’s downtown parks were bursting Friday night as the River Raisin Festival rocked into action.
The first major event of the day Friday was the Miss River Raisin Festival Scholarship Pageant. When it was over, Tamara Korican, of was crowed the queen for 2010. She’ll compete in the 2011 Miss Michigan Scholarship. Rounding out the top five were Ashliegh Allen, Tiffany Korican, Nicole Taylor and Meagan Hauss.
Crowds flooded the park at dusk in preparation for the annual fireworks display, which lit up the sky and concluded with an exhilarating finale.
The carnival and the inflatable rides were finally up and running. Extremely warm weather early in the week and Thursday’s downpour had slowed the opening of the carnival.
The fun continues Saturday, starting with a parade at 10:30 a.m. There will be free music and entertainment on three stages Saturday. A sand volleyball tournament takes place Saturday morning and afternoon. There will be a laser show near the Gail Giles Memorial Swimming Pool Saturday night at approximately 10 p.m.
