OGDEN – Saturday’s federal law enforcement operation reportedly targeting a “Christian” militia group in Lenawee County included a search of a Bruce Highway home in Ogden Township.

It was unclear if an arrest was made.
Bruce Highway resident Nelson Clough said he was startled by the commotion in his normally quiet and rural neighborhood.
“There were police cars parked right in front of my house and a helicopter circling above. It was the FBI, state police and others,” said Clough. “My wife was gone out when it all started, so I went out and asked a state trooper if she should come home or stay in town. He advised she stay in town. It certainly wasn’t what you normally see around here.”
Clough said police did enter the home of a next-door neighbor. He declined to reveal the name of the residents.
Another neighbor, who asked not be identified, said she and her family had never seen anything like it.
“We pulled up to our street and there were police officers wearing Kevlar and holding assault rifles. They wanted to see our identification before we could pass the checkpoint,” she said. “It was frightening.”
She said police were searching a home at the “top of the hill.” She did not name the residents but said that they kept to themselves and were relatively unknown to her family.
“Their children didn’t go to Blissfield schools and they didn’t play with our kids,” she said
She said police investigated the property into the wee hours, flooding the pole barn with light and pulling up a van to move things in and out.
The FBI conducted raids Saturday night in Lenawee and Washtenaw county in an investigation that reportedly targeted members of Hutaree, a Christian-oriented militia group. WXYZ-TV in Detroit reported operations in the Sand Creek and Clayton areas.
FoxNews.com reported that several arrests had been made in relation to the sale of pipe bombs.
A militia member told AnnArbor.com that five members of Hutaree were arrested during a raid at a service for a Hutaree member who had recently died.
Similar federal law enforcement raids have taken place in Sandusky and Huron, Ohio, and Hammond, Indiana.
A Toledo Blade report indicated the law enforcement operation would continue into tonight.
