ADRIAN — The Blissfield Middle School Concert Band and the Blissfield High School Symphonic Band continued a tradition of musical excellence Saturday afternoon.
ADRIAN — The Blissfield Middle School Concert Band and the Blissfield High School Symphonic Band continued a tradition of musical excellence Saturday afternoon. Both bands, directed by Mark Hollandsworth, earned top ratings at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association District VIII Band Festival, hosted by Adrian High School.
The Blissfield High School Band is ready for the Friday night lights.
Director Mark Hollandsworth, employing the help of several assistants, and the 40-member band completed band camp during the first week of August.
“Band camp is a condensed marking period of learning, but all in one week. It is intense learning,” said Hollandsworth, who begins his third year in the Blissfield Community Schools music program. “We learn a lot and have a lot of fun in those 40 hours.”
Musicians from Blissfield Middle School and Blissfield High School performed in the second annual Collage Concert at BHS May 19. Led by Blissfield Bands Director Mark Hollandsworth, the bands peformed under a roving spotlight and in front of big video display in front of an audience of several hundred people.
Band director Mark Hollandsworth wasn't the slickster in a black leather coat with a popped collar. This member of the sixth grade band also dressed the part for the playing of Grease.

These drummers received a big hand immediately after completing their piece.
