The Blissfield Elementary School Choir Holiday Concert at Light of Christ Church scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight (Thursday, Dec. 1) has been cancelled, according to Librarian Dr. Bob Barringer.

Library director Bob Barringer is looking forward to the birthday celebration of the Schultz-Holmes Memorial Library which is to be held from 1-4 p.m., Saturday, March 12.

In an age where libraries are facing cuts in funding and some are being forced to close, it’s nice to see activity in a library. And when that activity happens to be a 75th anniversary celebration, it’s all the more special.

Blissfield Village Council chooses Randy Kelley over Jae Guetschow and Gary Sullivan to fill vacant council position during the Jan. 10 regular meeting.

Monday night’s Blissfield Village Council meeting was uncharacteristically crowded. Supporters of the three candidates for the open council trustee seat, along with concerned Blissfield residents, piled into the auditorium of the Schultz-Holmes Memorial Library to see whom the councilmen would select to join their ranks. The candidates were former Village President Jae Guetschow, Planning Commission Chairman Randy Kelley, and Gary Sullivan, a teacher at Blissfield High School.

Want to help shape the priorities of the Blissfield Main Street Program for the next five to ten years?  Well, the program is giving the public that opportunity at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan 11, when it hosts the Downtown Blissfield Vision Session.  The session, which will be facilitated by Laura Krizov from the Michigan Main Street Center, will be held at the Schultz – Holmes Memorial Library.

The Downtown Development Authority has narrowed the field to four in its search for a manager of the Michigan Main Street program. The DDA board will interview three candidates at a special meeting that begins at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Schultz-Holmes Memorial Library auditorium.

A fourth candidate, currently residing in Florida, will be invited, as well, but made it known that he might not be able to get the time off work or pay for the airfare and accommodations.

It was an extra-special Storytime session at the Schultz-Holmes Memorial Library Wednesday, July 28.

Storytime was led by New York Times bestselling children’s book author, Deborah L. Diesen. Diesen.

The Midland native opened Storytime by talking to the audience about book covers, and how kids too young to read can tell a lot about a book from its cover. She help up a copy of her latest book, the Barefooted, Bad-tempered Baby Brigade, and asked the audience what they could tell about about the book.

“The babies look mean,” shouted one child in the audience.

 

It was an extra-special Storytime session at the Schultz-Holmes Memorial Library Wednesday, July 28.

Blissfield Village Council will have a special meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday April 6 in the Schultz-Holmes Memorial Library’s meeting.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the sale or purchase or lease of property.
Council went into executive session at its March 22 meeting to discuss the sale or purchase of property.
Village Administrator Jim Wonacott is on vacation and is unavailable for comment.
Attempts to reach President Jae Guetschow and Trustee A. Ray Jones were unsuccessful. Jones was the council member who made the motion to go into executive session March 22.
Trustee Art Weeber declined to comment on the matter.

The Schultz-Holmes Memorial Library presents Dr. Brian Patrick, from the University of Toledo Department of Communication at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 25.

His lecture is called "The Ten Commandments of Propaganda."

It is part of the Phyllis Robertson Lecture Series.

All library programs are free and open to the public.
