Former Blissfield resident recovering in Chicago

Three die in Thursday crash

WHITEFORD — A triple-fatal, head-on traffic collision occurred at 5:36 a.m. on U.S. 223 near Tabbert Road, according to a press release by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. The crash resulted in the deaths of three people, including two Blissfield residents.

Blissfield loses after-hours police line

For years, Blissfield residents wanting to speak directly to a police officer, day or night, have been able to do so by calling 486-2210.
During office hours, a call would place a resident in touch with whoever happened to be at the police station. After hours, calls were forwarded to the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department Central Dispatch center.
Recently, the 486-2210 line stopped working.

Riga Residents Take In Wind Energy Presentation

RIGA — The Riga Twp. Planning Commission, in conjunction with the Riga Township Board, sponsored a presentation at a special meeting Monday night by John Deere, one of the corporations interested in developing wind energy. The program was part of the township’s effort to educate community members about the ramifications of allowing or prohibiting the construction of wind farms in the township.

The presentation was conducted by John Deere business development manager Doug Dulmering and consisted of a Powerpoint presentation explaining the effect that “wind farms” would have on residents.

Royals Finish Soccer Season With Scoreless Tie

The Blissfield varsity soccer team concluded a stellar soccer season with a 0-0 draw against Monroe Jefferson.

The Royals varsity squad finished its season with a 7-2-5 record.

Blissfield had several glorious scoring chances but couldn't find the back of the net.

Royals Win In Dramatic Fasion

Blissfield swept sixth-ranked Ida at Blissfield Wednesday.

The Royals won the opener behind Hannah McEwan's pitching, 4-2. Zoe Brennan homered for the Royals.

In the second game, the Royals came from behind to win 7-6. Blissfield was down 6-0. In the sixth inning, down 6-3 with two outs and a full count, Kassie Sauter belted a grand slam homer into the wind for a 7-6 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Ida loaded the bases. With two outs, an Ida hitter bunted. Lauren Lievens charged in from third, fielded the ball and gunned down the runner at the plate to preserve the win.

Jessica Martinez pitched three scoreless innings of relief for the win.

The Royals improved to 5-1 in the LCAA. Wednesday's doubleheader at Onsted could determine the league title.

Blissfield swept sixth-ranked Ida at Blissfield Wednesday.
