Anderson, age 73 of Clare, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 25, 2011.  Judith was born the daughter of Marshall C. and Maude Ann (Cahill) Huff on July 15, 1938 in Detroit.  She was united in marriage to Donald K. “Pete” Anderson on February 27, 1960.  Judith had lived in the Clare area for 13 years, having moved from Charlevoix.

Lauralee “Laurie” Ann Mlcek, age 73, passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the Charlotte Stephenson Manor of Adrian, Michigan. She went peacefully while under the care of Hospice of Lenawee County ending her long struggle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).

united in marriage to Kenneth E. Iffland on April 18, 1964 in

    Charles Maurice Demey, 92, Blissfield, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family. 

    Charles Maurice Demey, 92, Blissfield, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 30, 1918, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Julian and Elizabeth Eliza (DeVolder) Demey. On March 10, 1945 Chuck was united in marriage to Dorothy Handy. She survives. Chuck later married his second wife, Eleanor Rhinehart.

Blissfield's $840,000 U.S. 223 project is one of five projects announced by MDOT today.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced today that the state is awarding $2,671,457 in federal Transportation Enhancement (TE) grants to fund projects in Alger, Lenawee, Muskegon, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. The grants will help to fund the construction of 7.5 miles of nonmotorized trails and a half mile of streetscape improvements. The announcement includes the long-awaited U.S. 223 corridor project in Blissfield.

Lenawee County is under a tornado warning. The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiach issued the warning at 5:45 p.m. Thursday. The warning is in effect until 7 p.m.

At 5:45 p.m. Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado. This storm was eight miles west of Hudson and moving east at 30 miles per hour.

The storm is expected to be near Sand Creek at 6:25 p.m.

The warning includes surrounding areas such as Blissfield, Deerfield and Adrian.

People are cautioned to take cover, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building and avoid windows.

The 27th Annual Blissfield River Raisin Festival concluded Sunday. Compared to the first two days of the festival, Sunday was quiet.

They day opened with a pancake breakfast and a church service.

Classic cars, souped up hot rods and motorcycles roared into Ellis Park around in the morning for the annual show, which featured motorcycles for the first time.

The River Raisin Festival Idol contest drew a big crowd Sunday afternoon. Activities continued at Kids Corner and at the Jules and Beck Carnival.

As the festival neared its end, the Cub Scouts 708 team defeated Team Sieler Construction in the annual Tug-o-War over the River Raisin Festival.

In the video above, Detroit police officer Greg Hudson wows the crowd with his winning performance at the Idol contest. In the video below, Blissfield resident Dean Cantrell performs in the Idol contest. Cantrell performed a song he wrote.

The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac has issued a tornado warning for Northern Lenawee County until 10 p.m. tonight. At 9:19 the National Weather Service Doppler Radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado. It was near Brooklyn and moving east at 30 MPH. The storm is expected to strike Clinton at 9:40 p.m., Tecumseh at 9:45 p.m. and Britton at 9:55 p.m.

Residents are advised to take cover in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and avoid windows. If in a mobile home, vehicle or outdoors, move to the closest substantial shelder and protect themselves from flying debris.

The thunderstorm is expected to have winds of 60 MPH and three-quarters of an inch hail.

The brunt of the storm appears to be north of Blissfield.

Severe weather could be an issue for the next few hours.

A severe thunderstorm for eastern Lenawee County and Monroe County has been issued by the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac until 10:45 p.m.

At 9:23 p.m. the weather service Doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing destructive winds in excess of 70 MPH. The warning also called for hail. These storms were along a line extending from Saline to Deerfield to 10 miles south of Blissfield and moving east at 40 MPH.

The National Weather Service warned that these storms presented an “extremely dangerous” situation and that people should seek shelter in a sturdy structure and stay away from windows.

The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for Lenawee and Monroe counties. The advisory is in effect until 10 p.m.

The NWS Doppler radar indicated an area of heavy rainfall across advisory area at 3:54 p.m. Radar estimates show 1 to 2.5 inches of rain has fallen since last night, with the highest amounts falling near the state line.

Runoff from this rainfall will cause minor flooding to occur, especially along small streams and near low water crossings. Some locations that will experience minor flooding include Blissfield, Deerfield, Ottawa Lake, Petersburg, Adrian, Dundee, Monroe, Hudson, Morenci, Temperance, Clayton, Ida, Lambertville, Lunda Pier, Onsted and Maybe.

The NWS reports that the rain will persist into the evening. An additional 1 to 1.5 inches of rain is possible. Excessive runoff from the storm will cause more minor flooding of small creeks and streams, country roads, as well as farmland along the banks and creeks of the streams.

 Rita Adeline Therese O’Mara, age 86, of Blissfield, was welcomed into God’s Heavenly Kingdom on Easter Sunday afternoon, April 4, 2010, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Rita Adeline was born in Detroit on June 19, 1923, the youngest child of John and Laura (Goodman) Schutz.

 DETROIT – A Blissfield area man was among nine members of a “Christian” militia indicted in United States District Court Monday on federal charges of conspiracy and attempting to use weapons of mass of destruction.

Joshua John Clough, 28, of Bruce Highway in Ogden Township, was a member of a militia group called Hutaree, whose website includes the motto, “Preparing for the end time battles to keep the testimony of Jesus Christ alive.”
