Waterford ends Whiteford’s record season in the state semis

FINAL:
Though Bobcat Jake Becki scored on a 23-yard touchdown catch at the end of the fourth quarter, it wasn’t enough to overtake Waterford who won the state MHSAA semifinal game 36-20 and advances next weekend to play in the state finals at Ford Field. The two-point conversion failed.
FOURTH QUARTER UPDATE:
Waterford scores in the fourth quarter and follows it with a two-point conversion, now leading as of 2:50 p.m. 30-14.
With 3:31 left to play at 3:02 p.m., Waterford scores again for a 36-14 lead on a 28-yard run. The Bobcats prevent the conversion attempt
THIRD QUARTER UPDATE:
The only score of the third quarter was a Jesse Kiefer one-yard run to make the score Waterford 22, Whiteford 14.

Whiteford wins regional football title, 48-14

The Whiteford Bobcats won their regional football title Saturday afternoon as visitors to Climax-Scotts’ turf, 48-14. They move on to the semifinals Nov. 21 – one game away from the state finals at Ford Field. If they win the semifinal, they move on to Detroit to play the following weekend.
Here’s how the scoring went:

2:53 p.m.
The Bobcats draw blood again for a 48-14 lead with another Kiefer touchdown run of seven yards. Eitinear chipped in the two-point conversion run.

Post halftime:
Climax-Scotts scores a touchdown but fails to make the conversion for a score of 40-14, Bobcats still leading.

As the end of the second quarter neared, Jesse Kiefer made a 27-yard touchdown catch on a slant play, and then caught the two-point conversion pass for a 40-8 lead that the Bobcats took into the locker room against Climax-Scotts at half time.

Reed earns all-state honors in cross country

Blissfield’s Casey Reed won all-state honors in cross country Saturday, Nov. 7 with a 14th-place individual finish in Division 3 at the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s state cross country finals. In team scoring, she was 13th.
Reed led the a strong Royal women’s team to a 10th-place finish in the championship at Michigan International Speedway.

As of early afternoon Saturday, Nov. 7, there is a widespread power outage in the Deerfield area. Consumers Energy anticipates power to be restored by 5 p.m.


WHITEFORD WINS FOOTBALL DISTRICT!

The Whiteford Bobcats proved to be top dog in state high school football playoff action against the Bulldogs of Morenci tonight (Friday).

The ‘Cats claimed the District crowned against the district’s top seed, Morenci, playing the Bulldogs in Morenci and defeating them there for the second time this season. With the 26-6 victory, Whiteford now moves on to regional play next week.

Madison women’s playoff hopes dashed

The Madison Trojan women’s volleyball team faced a tight 2-2 tie with Manchester going into the Distict Final last set Thursday evening, but fell to host Manchester 15-5 in the end.

Whiteford Bobcats advance in playoffs

The Bobcats of Whiteford proved “top dogs” as they took down the Summerfield Bulldogs at Summerfield Friday night in a 20-14 football playoff showdown.
The Bobcats will now take on more Bulldogs – those of Morenci – next Friday night, after Morenci battled the Lenawee Christian Cougars and beat those cats last Friday.
Whiteford defeated Morenci earlier in the season. All three teams tied for second place in the Tri-County Conference this fall.


Blissfield Police seek suspect who allegedly tried to lure child into vehicle

Police are searching for a person who allegedly attempted to lure a child into their vehicle Friday afternoon
According to a release from the Blissfield Police Department, at approximately 3:30 p.m. a dark-colored sports utility vehicle occupied by two persons, attempted to lure a child to their vehicle. The driver is described as a white male, in his 20s, wearing dark clothing wearing and a hat. There is no description of the passenger at this time.
The child dropped his bike and ran away and notified a neighbor. The vehicle was last seen in the area of Maple and N. Monroe streets in Blissfield. Anyone seeing a vehicle matching this description in the area at that time is asked to call 911.


Man dies after altercation in Deerfield

UPDATED STORY
DEERFIELD – Michigan State Police have identified 33-year old Nathan Vance of Adrian as the person who died after he and another man got into a fight at the Deer Run Apartment Complex in East River Street in the village of Deerfield Tuesday afternoon.
According to a press release issued Friday afternoon from F/Lt. Tony Cuevas of the Michigan state Police the incident that occurred at approximately 12:15 p.m. Tuesday began as a verbal disagreement due to the relationship both man had with a female subject who lives in the apartments. The verbal disagreement reportedly led to a physical altercation in the complex parking lot.
