Margaret Miller

ADRIAN—Margaret Pearl (Lipp) Miller passed away peacefully at Magnum Care Nursing Home in Adrian, Michigan on February 28th in the early evening.  She was born on February 26th, 1922 to the late Martin and Edith (Johnson) Lipp in Riga, Michigan.  She was well attended to by the staff at Magnum Care over the last few years and made many friends of the staff and residents at the home.

Margaret was raised on a farm in the Riga area until age 7 when her father died leaving her mother and four sisters, Ruth, Alice, Helen and Gladys to continue on.  It was a bit of a struggle but they worked together and all became very close as a result of the loss.  They moved to Blissfield where Margaret graduated from high school.  After high school, she worked at Sprunk Brothers Grocery Store.  She was a lifetime member of Emmanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church (now EUM) where she met Verl Miller, her husband of 66 years. Shortly after they married, in 1942, Verl went into the service.  When he returned from the service, they bought a farm on Adrian/Deerfield Rd. and stayed there for several years.  After four of their children were born, they moved to Traverse City, MI for several years. While living in Traverse City, their fifth child was born.  They then moved back to Blissfield where they resided until shortly before Verl’s death in 2008.  After most of their children had left home, Margaret began working for Brewer & Jonas Insurance Agency and eventually took training to become an insurance agent.

Margaret enjoyed sewing for herself and others and in later years knit hundreds of dish cloths for her friends and family. She loved her Lord, her family, small children wherever she saw them and a good joke or rhyme.  Margaret is now with her Savior and the many friends and relatives that have gone on before her including her parents, sisters and husband… and yes, she will be with the love of her life, Verl, once again.

She leaves behind her five children, Jeff (Kathy) Miller of Blissfield, Julie (Kel) Kohlhaas of Paw Paw, MI, Fred (Susan) Miller of Sylvania, OH, Marsha (Lloyd) Graber of North Manchester IN, and Dorothy Labert of Billings, MT; 16 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Margaret will be Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 215 E. Jefferson St. in Blissfield with Rev. Zach Dunlap officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:30 a.m.  Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery.   Memorial donations for Margaret may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or to “Tenderhearts” at Magnum Care Nursing Home, which is a private fund to pay for special activities for the residents. Arrangements were entrusted to the Wagley Funeral Home, Tagsold Chapel in Blissfield.
