Keelie Cairo Lenawee County’s female cross country champ

By Melissa Burnor

Blissfield’s Keelie Cairo is the 2013 Lenawee County cross country women’s champion. Despite being one of the youngest runners on the course, the 14-year-old won the county meet in decisive fashion Saturday morning at Gerber Park. The Blissfield Royal women placed second as a team overall followed by Britton Deerfield. The Tecumseh women won the team scoring. The Britton Deerfield men’s team placed seventh

The entire women’s race belonged to Cairo. She jumped into the lead right from the start, leading the entire 3.1-mile circuit around the park. The race seemed to start quite fast and as a result several runners posted some of their best times of the season.

“I was in the mood to win,” Cairo said after the meet.
