A swift-moving winter storm dumped four to five inches of snow on the area Wednesday, Dec. 26, causing slippery conditions that led to several accidents.

Snowy roads were a contributing factor when this pickup truck rolled over in the afternoon on Weston Road near Crockett Highway around 3:30 p.m.

The snowfall slowed in the evening hours and by morning Thursday, the combination of plowing and salt had main roads wet but navigable. Side roads remained snowy and slick in many spots.

A post-Christmas snowstorm with at-times blizzard conditions blew into Lenawee County Wednesday morning, Dec. 26.

Snowy road conditions had travelers driving slowly and local emergency responders tending to accidents. Pictured is a single-vehicle rollover accident that occurred on Yankee Road near Berkey Highway around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. Riga and Blissfield township fire department rescuers were on the scene and removed the victim for transport to a hospital.

They took a little time last week to reflect on the decades they spent serving the community.

And just like their time spent working, the afternoon was punctuated with several members of the community passing their booth in one of the downtown eating establishments to greet them,  everyone knowing each other on a first-name basis. Both men were hired in the 1970’s by Chief Roy Heineman. Harold “Butch” Gunter was the department’s sergeant and would become chief in 1981.
