A direct short-line freight route from Toledo to Adrian could be a possibility. If funding can be secured, a railway linking the two cities could once again be a reality.
Some local government officials are discussing a potential move by the Adrian and Blissfield Railroad company to rebuild about seven miles of railroad track between Riga and Ottawa Lake that had been abandoned since the late 1970s.
Brenda Rice, representative from the rail line spoke at a special meeting of the Riga Township Board Jan. 21. The rail line would essentially tie in the tracks in Riga Township near Silberhorn Highway to Sterns Road in Whiteford Township on what is now an abandoned line of the old Erie & Kalamazoo, the first railroad built in the area and often cited as the first railroad west of the Allegheny Mountains.

Members of the Blissfield Board of Education will attending the Monday, Jan.28, regular meeting of the Blissfield Village Council at 7 p.m.. Members of the board of education are attending the meeting regardin g discussions involving the possible construction of an addition to the school facilities that would also be made available for community use.
This meeting is a continuation of discussions that began when Blissfield Community Schools invited several community groups to the high school last fall for an informative meeting on the topic.
The dip in temperature means the ice in the Rotary Ice Rink at Ellis Park is ready for skating. The rink officially opened Tuesday for winter fun.
This Saturday the Blissfield parks and Recreation Department presents Family Skate Night from 6-8 p.m.
There will be fire barrels, hot chocolate and music for skating at this family event which is is weather permitting.
Normal hours for the skate rink will be 6 a.m.-11:30 p.m. daily. Open skate hours are from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. No hockey equipment will be allowed during this time.
