Pair arrested in connection with pharmacy burglary

A mother and son were arraigned in Lenawee County District Court last week on four felony counts each for their alleged involvement in the July 27, 2012, burglary of Schmidt and Sons Pharmacy. Tammy Hopkins, 40, and Jamie Lee Lawson, 21, both of Belleville were arraigned by video from the Lenawee County Jail. Hopkins on Feb. 5 and Lawson on Feb. 7. Both are charged with two counts of breaking and entering, larceny in a building and possession of burglars’ tools. Both will face a pre examination in front of Judge James Sheridan. they were both given a $100,000 bond.

Weather forces some sports rescheduling

Games scheduled tonight (Friday, Feb. 8) for Blissfield men’s and women’s varsity basketball teams  against Columbia Central have been postponed due to weather.It will be played tomorrow night at Columbia Central with the women’s game starting at 5:30 p.m.   Britton Deerfield women’s basketball team’s game against Morenci is also postponed. As of this afternoon a rescheduled playing time had not been decided.

Whiteford will be traveling to Whitmore Lake tonight where both the men’s and women’s varsity will play beginnimg at 5:30 p.m. as scheduled.


Schreiber named 2013 Teacher of the Year by Vocal Music Assn.

Whiteford educator Todd Schreiber is no stranger to the stage, but in his 25th year with the district, the spotlight has been cast on Schreiber as the 2013 Teacher of the Year by the Michigan School Vocal Music Association.

A graduate of Bowling Green State University with a bachelor’s degree in music education, and a master’s degree from VanderCook College in Chicago, Schreiber has served as the K-12 vocal music teacher at Whiteford for a quarter century, as well as the MSVMA district 12 co-manager for the past 11 years.

Along with his many accomplishments as an educator and accompanist, Schreiber is also a published author. His book, “Olympic Games for the Music Classroom,” was published by the Shawnee Press in 2008.
