BD women remain perfect after defeating Bobcats

The Britton Deerfield Lady Patriots remain perfect on the season at 7-0 after defeating the visiting Bobcats of Whiteford Friday night. Both teams had a slow start, but BD emerged victorious 42-29.

Blissfield Schools closed again Thursday; events cancelled

Blissfield Community Schools will be closed again Thursday due to road conditions after Sunday and Monday’s storm and frigid conditions.

Steve Babbitt, Blissfield athletic director, reported that the JV and varsity women’s basketball game at Columbia Center and the wrestling home quad as well as the freshman basketball game at home set for Thursday have been cancelled.

7th January

The Blissfield wrestling team hit the road for the Dave Elliott Memorial Invitational in Clinton. Despite a strong start, the Royals finished in ninth place, with Manchester taking the top spot for the tournament.

While the Royals were coming off the holiday and break and attempting to shake off the rust as a team, several individual wrestlers for Blissfield had no trouble putting the competition on ice.

Blissfield’s Dakota Underwood

Leading the way for the Blissfield mat men were Cavin Beckey in the 130-pound division and Dakota Underwood in the 215-pound class. Both Beckey and Underwood finished in second place on the day.

2nd January

The Blissfield wrestling team went 2-3 and finished in fourth place at the Sand Creek Tournament Dec. 21. The host Aggies dominated the field to go 5-0 and claim the crown.

“It was an ugly game but a win nonetheless,” Britton Deerfield varsity coach Craig Tanis said of his team’s 52-32 victory over rival Summerfield. The Britton Deerfield Lady Patriots remain undefeated with a 6-0 record.

Bowlers hit the lanes for BHS

The Blissfield men’s and women’s bowling team’s finished with the same scores but on different sides of the win column when they hosted the Madison Trojans Dec. 17. The Blissfield men came up short against Madison 20-10, while the Lady Royals bested the Lady Trojans 20-10.

The Blissfield varsity wrestling team split its meet with Erie-Mason and Dundee Dec. 18. The Royal mat men topped the Eagles 46-33 before falling to the Vikings 72-6.

BLISSFIELD

The Blissfield varsity basketball squad split a pair of contests last week with a 69-36 victory over the Hudson Tigers, followed by a 68-52 fall to the Dundee Vikings. The Royals’ record now stands at 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the LCAA.

BRITTON DEERFIELD

It wasn’t pretty, but the Britton Deerfield Patriots beat the Clinton Redskins 44-41 for the first time since the 2011-12 season.

Whiteford men’s basketball team improved to 2-1 with the opening night of league play Dec. 17. The Bobcats won 59-53 over Tri County Conference rival Summerfield.
