Blissfield Musicians In Spotlight at 2nd Annual Collage Concert

Musicians from Blissfield Middle School and Blissfield High School performed in the second annual Collage Concert at BHS May 19. Led by Blissfield Bands Director Mark Hollandsworth, the bands peformed under a roving spotlight and in front of big video display in front of an audience of several hundred people.

After the introductions and a salute to the graduating seniors, the show started with a peformance by the senior band.

Olivia Miller plays the flute with the high school band during the Collage Concert's opening number, Olympic Fanfare and Theme.

The band played in front of a video of all-state cross country runner Justin Bateson carrying a "torch" as he ran through Blissfield. As the song finished, Bateson entered the gym carrying the torch. He circled the gym and the number ended when he passed the torch to band director Mark Hollandsworth.

Mikayla Carter played Allegretto, accompanied by pianist Brian Barrus. Here's a picture, followed video.

The sax-playing boys are members of the sixth grade band, which played following Carter's performance.

A short time later, it was time for the BHS Jazz Ensemble. Here they are, with Smooth.

While the symphonic bands and soloists played under bright spotlight, the jazz ensemble played under this cool red light. Of course, some say Jazz originated in the red light district of New Orleans. Here's Sarah Seegert playing alto sax.

Then it was time for the seventh and eighth grand band, performing above.

Above is a picture of the clarinet section of the band as it performs Les Miserables.

Below is video of a massed horns section peforming at the concert.

Above, the BHS symphonic band performs Ascend.

Below, the seventh and eighth grade band plays Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.

And then it was time for the Jazz Band again, this time joined by Blissfield Community Schools Vocal Director Wanice Linn. Above is a video, on the left is a picture.

A short time later, the Marching Band was at work.

Oh, and there were many solos. Like Andrew Renwand's. Here, he tackles Blue Bells of Scotland.

And there were Trios, too.  On the left, Ariel Emery plays Trio For Woodwinds with Rachel Shields and Courtney Whiteman.

And there were many more.

Charlie Southward and Kyle Sell perform Rumble.com with Brianna Yates (not pictured). Fans in the audience complied with director Mark Hollandsworth's request to abstain from from applause until the end of the show. For the most part. These drummers received a big hand immediately after completing their piece. Below is video from their performance.

Here's Courtney Eisenmann singing and strumming her very own tune, Something More.

Here's a grouping of several other performances by Blissfield musicians.

And here is a duet, 2-Part Invention,  Sarah Seegert and Zac Miller.

One of the night's highlights came when the Jazz Ensemble hammered out Metallica's Enter Sandman.

On the right is a picture of Jazz bassist Austin Powell.

Finally, the night concluded with all three symphonic bands performing the school's fight song, as the audience stood up and cheered. Here's a picture of Courtney Eisenmann leading the high school band in the fight song.

And here's video footage of how it all came to a close.
