On the first cool Friday night of the football season that fell on Friday the 13th, skill and drive with a little bit of luck resulted in a mixed bag of gridiron results this week.
Britton Deerfield raised its season record to 2-1 Friday night with a big football win over visiting Whitmore Lake, 39-22. But the win was tempered with concern for Patriot quarterback Cody Meinert, who was injured after passing for two touchdowns and rushing for two more.

The Britton Deerfield women’s cross country team repeated as champions of the Addison Kuenzer Invitational meet Saturday, Sept. 7. The men placed fifth at the event.

The Whiteford Bobcats extended their winning ways to a 2-0 season gridiron start with a 38-0 defeat of Erie Mason Friday night in the Bobcat home opener.
The Britton Deerfield Patriots notched their first football win of the season in their home opener, taking down Waterford 21-17 after turning around a 13-7 third-quarter deficit.
Blissfield is still looking for its first season W after the Clinton Redskins triumphed over the Royal football squad by a score of 40-0.

The Blissfield varsity men’s soccer team notched its first win of the 2013 season last week in a dominating 8-0 mercy of the Jonesville Comets.
Blissfield split on the week with as it came up just short in a 1-0 loss to Onsted Aug. 26.
The Royals record stands at 1-1-1 through the first three games of the season.

The Britton Deerfield women’s cross country team narrowly defeated Blissfield at the Whiteford Bobcat Cross Country Invitational Aug. 27.
Whiteford came in seventh place. BD scored only 16 points while Blissfield had 17 Whiteford was seventh with 56 points.
The Whiteford men’s team placed third in their first outing of 2013 at their own invitational Aug. 27 at the Michigan Technical Resource Park on Yankee Road. The Patriots of Britton Deerfield were fifth and Blissfield was ninth.

The air was heavy on a humid August Thursday, the band was playing, the stands were packed. It could only mean one thing…it’s that special time of the year: it’s football season.
To kickoff the 2013 season, the Whiteford Bobcats came into Royal country to battle Blissfield on a Thursday night, Aug. 29, under the lights. Whiteford played the role of spoiler as it bested Blissfield 37-20 to open the season.

The Blissfield varsity women’s volleyball team went 4-1-1 in bracket play at the Jackson County Western tournament Aug. 24.
The Lady Royals swept Onsted 25-17 and 25-18 to win the silver bracket.
Blissfield had no problem spiking the competition as it registered at least one win against every team the team faced except Tecumseh. Tecumseh was the only squad to best the Royals in two consecutive games by scores of 21-16 in both matches.

The Blissfield and Britton Deerfield women’s cross country teams placed second and third in the Lenawee County Cross Country Preview meet at Tecumseh Saturday.
BD’s Larissa Buckingham was the top finisher of the day, placing second in the junior/senior race in a time of 22:09. The preview race featured two races for the women and the men. A freshmen/sophomore race followed by the junior senior race.
Tecumseh won the women’s meet with 29 points. Blissfield followed with 39 and Britton Deerfield had 48 points. Adrian was the next closest competitor with 48 points. Rounding out the team scoring were Sand Creek, 78, Onsted, 93, Addison, 114, Clinton, 138, and Madison 161.

The Blissfield 9-10 year old Little League team’s quest for a state title in Muskegon has come to an end following a 7-3 semifinal loss to North Saginaw Township. Blissfield had cruised through the first three games of pool play, going a perfect 3-0. Blissfield continued the winning steak with a 3-2 victory over Fraternal Northwest in the quarterfinal contest Tuesday before falling to North Saginaw.
