Friday Night Football: Oct. 18 … Playoffs spots for BD and WHS

Big wins from local teams Britton Deerfield, Blissfield and Whiteford Friday night guaranteed both the BD Patriots and WHS Bobcats berths in the 2013 high school football playoffs.

BD stymied the Morenci Bulldogs, who were also hungry for a playoff bid, 56-21, securing the Patriots’ playoff bid for 2013.

Whiteford also turned in big numbers, with a 42-6 victory over Madison, to assure the Bobcats a playoff appearance.

Blissfield soccer season ends at district level

The Blissfield varsity soccer team saw a record-setting season come to a close Monday afternoon, Oct. 14, with a 3-2 loss to Washtenaw Christian in the first round of district competition.

Despite the early departure from districts, the Royals posted a 9-1 victory over Clinton Oct. 7, along with a 2-2 tie with Quincy last Thursday.

The Royals finished the season 11-3-2 to set a new single-season win mark and 7-3 in the ISL for a third-place league finish.

Keelie Cairo Lenawee County’s female cross country champ

Blissfield’s Keelie Cairo is the 2013 Lenawee County cross country women’s champion. Despite being one of the youngest runners on the course, the 14-year-old won the county meet in decisive fashion Saturday morning at Gerber Park. The Blissfield Royal women placed second as a team overall followed by Britton Deerfield. The Tecumseh women won the team scoring. The Britton Deerfield men’s team placed seventh

The entire women’s race belonged to Cairo. She jumped into the lead right from the start, leading the entire 3.1-mile circuit around the park. The race seemed to start quite fast and as a result several runners posted some of their best times of the season.

“I was in the mood to win,” Cairo said after the meet.

Friday Football Oct. 11: BHS, BD and WHS all winners

For Blissfield and Britton Deerfield, it was a big win each. For Whiteford, it was a second-half comeback and a one-point victory.

BD downed the Sand Creek Aggies by a whopping 57-16 Friday night.

The Royals of Blissfield traveled to Erie Mason and spoiled yet another homecoming, 40-18, for their second win of the season. Their first win was a homecoming defeat of Columbia Central.

Whiteford downed Morenci 32-31.

BD, BHS, WHS travel to Hudson cross country event; BD women first in Division 4 race

All three area schools competed at the Hudson Booster Invitational today, Saturday, Oct. 5. The Britton Deerfield women’s team placed first in the Division Four race. For a complete list of results, please look in the Oct. 9 edition of The Advance.

FOOTBALL: Friday, Oct. 4

When lightning lit up the sky Friday night in Blissfield, the scoreboard was lit up 31-0 in visiting Hillsdale’s favor in the third quarter. And the score never changed as the homecoming game was finally called as it stood when officials first cleared the field. Seniors Claire Denecker and Charlie Southward were crowned homecoming queen and king at halftime.

Britton Deerfield also played the role of homecoming spoiler over in Summerfield, taking the game 33-14.

The Whiteford Bobcats traveled to Whitmore Lake where the home team claimed a 20-14 win over the visiting ‘Cats.

Lady Bobcats reign in TCC

The Whiteford Lady Bobcats remain atop the Tri-County Conference after defeating Summerfield in a double-header Thursday, Oct. 3

.  Whiteford won the first match 25-8, 25-12 and 25-17. They came back to win the second match 25-12, 25-12, 22-25 and 25-12. The Bobcats are 7-0 in the TCC.

All three football teams are Friday night victors

For the first time this fall, all three local football teams came up with victories.

For Britton Deerfield and Whiteford, it was a decisive homecoming win for each. For Blissfield, not only was it the spoiling of the Columbia Central homecoming, but also the Royals’ first win of the season.

BD downed Madison 45-7 for the last homecoming game to be played on the Deerfield football field.

Blissfield traveled to Columbia Central and clipped the wings of the Golden Eagles 14-6 on two Dakota Suiter touchdowns and a pair of Tyler Watters PAT kicks.

Whiteford claimed a 38-13 defeat over the Summerfield Bulldogs.

Soccer avenges earlier loss to Onsted

The Blissfield men’s varsity soccer team avenged an early season loss to Onsted with a 3-1 victory at home Monday.

The win extends the Royals win streak to five games and keeps them a perfect 5-0 on their home field. Blissfield’s record is now 7-2-1 on the season. Blissfield heads to Manchester Thursday where it hopes to sweep the season series against the Dutchmen after defeating them 5-3 earlier this season.

A day late, Dundee wins

Dundee may not have had officials for the scheduled Friday night varsity football game, but the officials were there Saturday night when Blissfield returned looking for its first victory.

The Royals, however, returned to Blissfield still winless after a 28-13 loss to the host team.
