Betty Jane Porter passed away February 20th, 2015.
Born on October 6th, 1922, in Williamsburg, Virginia, Betty was the daughter of Gilbert and Florida Russell Girard. She is survived by her elder brother Gilbert Girard, Jr., and was preceded in death by her siblings Robert Girard, Eugene Paul Girard, and Mary Elizabeth Girard Rudolph.
Betty married her soulmate of 72 years, Townsend “Tom” Porter, in August 1942. She had three children, Townsend “Tom” Porter, David Porter, and her dearly departed daughter Carol Ann.
She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, and cooking, and she took up the violin at age 70, and played avidly for 15 years. She traveled extensively with Tom, and settled in Sarasota, Florida for the last 12 years.

DEERFIELD — Marlene A. (Bondy) Brubaker Mehan, age 78, formerly of Deerfield, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Tecumseh Place II under the care of Hospice of Lenawee.
She was born February 1, 1937, in Deerfield, to William and Geraldine (Shettleroe) Bondy graduating from Deerfield High School with the Class of 1955.
She later worked at Fisher Body for 19 years. She was a past member of St. Alphonsus’ Catholic Church, enjoyed bowling in the past on the Ma & Pa League in Deerfield, and liked to garden, growing beautiful hibiscus.
Marlene will also be remembered for the wonderful cakes she made for friends and family.

Elizabeth Fischer, age 97, formerly of Blissfield, died Sunday, March 8, 2015, under the care of Hospice of Lenawee at Adrian MagnumCare Health Center.
Mrs. Fischer was born November 21, 1917, in Sebewaing, Mich to Christian and Elizabeth (Bernhardt) Schmidt, and raised in Deerfield.
Elizabeth married Louie H. Fischer, September 20, 1940 in Indiana. He died June 28, 1991.
She was a longtime member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was active in the Friendship Circle. She was a homemaker and enjoyed making quilts for family members, playing cards, bingo and her daily walks.

Charles L. “Chip” Kasten IV, age 33 of Blissfield, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, February 15, 2015.
Chip attended Manatee High School in Bradenton, Fla., and attended both Owens and Stautzenberger Community Colleges, Toledo, where he studied his passion of auto repair. He enjoyed fishing with his dad, working on cars, was an avid hunter and loved his Ohio State Buckeyes. He had currently built display and window cases for “Simply Stated & Painted,” a ceramics store in Toledo. Overall, his children were his absolute joy.

Robert P. Piotter, 89, of Blissfield, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015, at Blissfield Place.
Bob was born on Sept. 4, 1925, the son of Paul and Madeline (Vanest) Piotter.
Bob graduated from Blissfield High School in 1943, and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He was married on July 1, 1950 to Violet Goetz, who preceded him in death in 2013.
Bob worked for 37 years at Tecumseh Products, and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Riga.
He was a member and past commander of the Blissfield American Legion Post 325, and member and past Chef de Tran of the 40et8 in Adrian.
Bob also was a member of the Thursday night men’s bowling league in Blissfield for many years.

Thomas M. Yarger Sr., age 65, of Blissfield, passed away Friday, February 13, 2015, at Hospice House in Adrian. Thomas was born on May 22, 1949 in Lansing.
He worked for Ford Motor Company for approximately 24 years, beginning in 1991.
Thomas loved NASCAR and his favorite driver, Mark Martin. He also loved to travel to the Smoky Mountains, Nashville and the Bourbon Trail and also hiked Mt. LeConte. Thomas enjoyed bass fishing, bowling and golf and was a talented woodworker.

Margie Lee Shick, 95, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2015 in Kalamazoo. Margie Lee was born in Millboro Springs, Va., on February 28, 1919.
Margie Lee received her undergraduate degree from Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, VA and taught elementary school for three years. She received her Masters of Religious Education from Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, Va. She was a Sunday School Extension worker for the Synod of Virginia, and later served as Director of Christian Education in Hazard, Ky. Margie Lee and Mel were married in Waynesboro, VA in 1949.

Joshua Louis Gates, age 31 of Blissfield, died Sunday, February 8, 2015.
He was born July 31, 1983, in Adrian to Terry and Debra (Kastel) Gates.
Joshua was self-employed doing painting and power washing. He was an active Cub Scout volunteer. Joshua coached for the Blissfield My Way Wrestling Club, Little League, softball and soccer club.
He was a member of Elem3nt Church and was a member of their Upward Basketball program.

DEERFIELD — Robert J. “Bob” Pieh, 66 of Deerfield died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at his home.
Bob was born in Adrian, Michigan, on October 14, 1948, to Richard and Georgette (Vanhaerents) Pieh. He graduated from Deerfield High School with the class of 1966. After graduation he went to work for Ford Motor Company in Saline. Shortly after getting hired, he was drafted to serve his country with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He returned home from the war in 1969 and went back to work for Ford’s in Saline.
On October 8, 1971, Bob married Deanna S. Sager in Deerfield. She survives.
Bob was transferred to Ford’s in Milan where he retired in 2001 after 34 years of service.

Donald ‘Don’ (Freddie) Sattler, 86 formerly of Blissfield, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Tecumseh Place II.
He was born in Metamora, Ohio, November 5, 1928 to Robert and Ruth (Irwin) Sattler. He married Marian Haas on November 10, 1946 in Blissfield. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage before she preceded him in death in 2010.
Don worked with the Crist Company, GoCon/Goodrich and later on with Lenawee Kreighoff doing masonry work and carpentry. Family was important to Don, especially his grandchildren. He and his wife, Marian spent many hours at Lenawee County Fair watching their grandchildren show their 4-H projects.
