Maxine A. Eastman, age 85 of Blissfield, formerly of Westland, Michigan, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Blissfield Place where she happily lived the past six years surrounded by wonderful care givers and residents she considered dear friends. She was born at home in Palmyra, Michigan on May 17, 1928, to Charles and Mary (Humphrey) Bartholomew, and graduated from Adrian High School. Maxine worked as a dental assistant for several dentists and was also an assistant professor at Ferris State University. While teaching at Ferris State she met her husband, Donald Eastman whom she married August 30, 1969. They celebrated 39 years together prior to his death in 2008. Helen Ruth Vergote, age 94, of Blissfield, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at her home. She was born April 3, 1919, in Sturgis, Michigan to Fred H. and Lillian (Betz) Iffland. On February 19, 1942, she married Paul Vergote in Plaqueman, LA. He preceded her in death on October 23, 2008. Helen had been employed by the Blissfield Telephone Company. She enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Belgium and Europe. She also enjoyed making baby quilts and ceramics and was involved in Busy Beaver of North Blissfield 4-H Club. Helen was also involved in funeral dinners and many committees at church. She was a member of Farm Bureau. Frederick Brieschke Jr., age 83 of Blissfield, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Flower Hospital.
Born December 24, 1929 in Blissfield, Michigan, he was the youngest child of Frederick and Hazel (Caswell) Brieschke Sr. Fred graduated from Blissfield High School in 1947 and attended Michigan State University. During the Korean Conflict Fred served in the United States Navy.
On August 28, 1954 he was married to Loraine Vanneste, and she survives.
Fred lived all his life in Blissfield. He worked at Teledyn in Toledo, retiring in 1988 with 32 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion.

RIGA — Dennis H. Bierman, 69, lost his long battle with cancer on Oct. 30, 2013, at his home in Makakilo, Hawaii.
Denny retired from civilian service with the US Navy@Naval Undersea Warfare Center Detachment Pacific with 41 years of honorable federal service.
Denny is survived by his loving wife, Briana Anderson Bierman, his mother Arlene Bierman, his sisters Lynette Million and Lynda Yinger, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place with a memorial service held in Hawaii on Nov. 9, 2013,. A memorial service is planned for Denny at 1 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Riga Cememtery, Riga. There will be a gathering of family and friends following at the family home.

Dorothy Bowen Harmes, 85, a lifelong resident of Lenawee County and for the past several years, The Michigan Masonic Home in Alma, died on Saturday, October 26, 2013. Dorothy was born in Adrian to Melville and Cecil (Vogel) Bowen, who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Adrian High School and held a Bachelor and Master Degrees in Education from Siena Heights College (University). Stuart J. DeRousie, age 91, formerly of Blissfield, died Friday, November 15, 2013.
A part of the “greatest generation”, he was born on July 15, 1922, in Detroit, lived through the Great Depression, graduated from Britton High School in 1940, served for three years in the U.S. Army Air Corps in India during World War II, and married Helia I. Juntunen DeRousie on April 6, 1946. in Detroit. Together, they raised three sons in Blissfield where he supported the community his entire life.
Stuart retired from the Blissfield Volunteer Fire Department in 1980 after 30 years of service, including 16 years as fire chief. ADRIAN — Doris G. Zinn, age 95 of Adrian, passed away Friday, November 8, 2013, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility. Born August 1, 1918, in Riga, Michigan, she was the daughter of Henry J. and Anna E. (Forsyth) Silberhorn. She graduated from Blissfield High School with the Class of 1936. On September 2, 1939, she married Wilbur Zinn at the Riga Lutheran Church, and they celebrated 65 years of marriage. Doris was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tecumseh. She and Wilbur enjoyed traveling extensively with their camper and knew the best fishing spots in both Michigan and Florida. Shirley Ann Shusta, age 77 of Blissfield, died Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at ProMedica Bixby Hospital surrounded by her family.
She was born July 17, 1936, in Detroit to Med and Rose (Nault) Isabell. Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Pershing High School. On May 2, 1959, in Detroit she married Bernard Shusta.
She was the apartment manager for six years at Riverview Terrace Apartments, retiring in 2004. She was a member of Light of Christ Parish and very involved in church activities, including the K of C Auxiliary. Shirley was an active member and five-year leader of TOPS 1053 and a 33-year member of Al-Anon. Her family would tell you she perfected the ultimate cheesecake recipe. Shirley will be remembered for her beautiful soul, loving wife, mother and grandmother.
