BLISSFIELD – Hope M. J. (Hanson) Venema, age 90 of Blissfield, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at her daughter’s home.
She was born at home in Wakefield, Michigan, September 3, 1925 to Albert and Olga (Thompson) Hanson.
Hope earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics from Michigan State University, and started her career in teaching in Niles, Michigan. After moving to Blissfield and starting a family, Hope was a substitute teacher for many years.
On June 25, 1949, Hope married Jacob Venema, and he preceded her in death in 1979, having shared 30 wonderful years together.
Hope was a 72 year member of the Tecumseh Order of the Eastern Star. She attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, served as a 4H leader and a Campfire Girls leader. She kept busy with knitting and crocheting and was a talented seamstress. She loved music and dancing. … Read More »
BLISSFIELD – Kathryn A. Breitner, age 55 of Blissfield, passed away January 27, 2016.
She was born in El Paso, Texas the daughter of James and Helen (Collingsworth) Jaqua, and grew up in the Petersburg area.
Always cheerful, Kathryn showed her family how to live with great joy. She shared this joy with her treasured grandsons who lovingly called her “Yaya”. She attended Light of Christ Parish in Blissfield. Kathryn was dearly loved by many people who will miss her fun and energetic spirit.
Surviving are her children: Kandace (Archie Nieswander) Breitner of Blissfield, Corbin (Holly) Lucas of Petersburg, and Cody (Gabby) Libstorff of Milan; grandsons, Kaleb and Kalon; siblings: Frank (Heidi) Jaqua, Deb (Karl) Knerr, Edward Jaqua, and Susan (Richard) Brown; and a very special friend, Ronnie Clegg.

Robert William Zimmerman, age 83, of Blissfield, Michigan, passed away January 22, 2016, at Whispering Pines, Adrian.
He was born October 4, 1932, in Blissfield Township to Harold and Mabel (McCormick) Zimmerman.
He was married on February 8, 1952 to Pauline (Lievens) Zimmerman. In addition to his loving wife of 63 years, he is survived by one daughter, Debra (Rick) Burns of Tipton; one sister, Lois Bockbrader and one brother, James (Jane) Zimmerman; three grandchildren, Heather Miller, Lindsey Burns, and Rian Burns; and 2 great-grandchildren, Michael Miller and Hayden Kobus.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Clayton Bockbrader.
Bob was an electrician for 47 years before retirement, being the owner of Zimmerman Electric, Inc. of Blissfield.

Jennie Lea Alcock passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born on April 16, 1927, to Samuel and Tessie (Buchanan) Birchfield. She married Lyle Robert Alcock on December 26, 1946, in Adrian. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1980. Jennie is survived by her five children, Larry (Debbie) Alcock, Linda (Don) Michelin, Sharon Gunter, John (Linda) Alcock and Mike Alcock, 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; brother Roger (Judy) Birchfield, sister-in-law Anne Birchfield; her loving caretaker Pam Castillo and close friend Lois Mason.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, John, Jack and Samuel Birchfield, sisters, Lois Baughey and Dixie Birchfield, sister-in-law Sondra Birchfield, brother-in-law Bud Baughey.

Patricia Ann Gomulinski, age 78, of Petersburg, Michigan, passed away January 24, 2016, at her daughter’s home with her loving family by her side.
She was the daughter of Dr. Robert E. Benson and Elizabeth K. Bancroft. She was born in St. John’s, Michigan, on January 5, 1938.
She grew up in St. John’s and attended Ferris State University. She worked for the Michigan Department of Health Division of Laboratories for 10 years.
She met her husband, Melvin Gomulinski, in Lansing and they were married in 1968. Following her husband’s job relocation, they moved to Petersburg, Michigan, in 1972. Luella Clara Cory, age 98, entered the arms of Jesus in her son’s home surrounded by her family on Friday, January 15, 2016. She was born in Blissfield, Michigan on August 17, 1917 to Ernest and Margaret Knapp.
Luella married Robert Cory on June 20, 1944, and after a beautiful marriage of 50 years, he preceded her in death in 1995. She is survived by their three children: Kathy (Rody) Rodeheaver, Pat (Larry) Russell, and Dan (Dawn) Cory; and seven grandchildren: Cory (Jennifer) Rodeheaver, Joel (Lauren) Rodeheaver, Abbey (John) Johnston, Laura (Adam) Rodeheaver-Van Gelder, April (Chris) Key, Danielle Cory, Jessica Cory and eight great-grandchildren. Sylvia Wegner passed away on January 5, 2016 at The Lighthouse of West Bend, WI., where she resided since June of 2014. She was formerly of Blissfield and Adrian, MI where she lived for 25 and 15 years, respectively. Sylvia was 81years old and was born in Sulina, Romania to Karl and Theodora Schinner on July 30, 1934. In November of 1952 she married Billy Redman in Linz, Austria at a double wedding ceremony with her twin sister, Eleonora. They raised their family in South Lyon and Brighton, MI. On September 15, 1976 she married Edward Wegner in Ann Arbor, MI. Sylvia was fluent in three languages; German, Romanian and English.

Leslie M. Nachtrab, 38 of Blissfield, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016 at home under the loving care of her family.
Leslie was born December 14, 1977, in Adrian, the daughter of Letah (Gilson) Kilmer and Edward Phillips.
She graduated from Blissfield High School in 1996 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Siena Heights University in 2004.
On April 14, 2007, Leslie married Benjamin Nachtrab on Amelia Island in Florida and they were blessed with a son, “B” (Benjamin).
Leslie loved traveling with her husband. She was a talented artist who enjoyed scrapbooking and painting; and was very competitive in sports. Leslie was part of the work family at Alliance Retina in Toledo. She attended Ogden Church.

Betty R. Knisel, age 91 of Blissfield, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at her home under the tender care of her family.
Betty was born November 15, 1924, in Ottawa Lake to the late Joseph and Amelia (Korth) Bexten, and grew up working on the family farm.
On June 21, 1946 she married Jarvis Knisel. He preceded her in death, having been blessed with 51 years together.
Betty was a homemaker, but also worked with Jarvis on their farm taking care of the chickens and maintaining a beautifully manicured lawn. She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Circle and Sunday school. With her caring spirit, Betty was known for sending cards, visiting, and always having cookies on hand to share.

Evelyn Elizabeth Granzow, a long-time resident of Blissfield, MI, passed away December 30, 2015 in Hastings, MI. She was 93.
Evelyn was born March 27, 1922 in Albuquerque, NM, where her family moved after her father was injured in World War I. After his passing, Evelyn moved back to Holgate, Ohio, with her mother and sister, where she grew up surrounded by her mother’s extended family.
Her earliest recollections were of farm life, gathering berries in the woods with her grandmother, and watching her uncles make dandelion wine.
Evelyn graduated from Toledo School of Nursing in 1944. Soon after, she enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps and served during World War II, until her honorable discharge in 1946.
