Blissfield police getting semi-automatic rifles

By Melissa Burnor

Although its officers hope never to have to use them, the Blissfield Police Department will be soon add semi-automatic rifles to its arsenal of weaponry.

Police Chief Jane Kelley said there has been more than one occasion in the last couple of years when one of these weapons would have been useful, including last year when the double-homicide on Lane Street occurred.

“If our officer had arrived seconds sooner, he would have been extremely undergunned,” Kelley said.

The Adrian and Blissfield Railroad has donated the cost of purchasing the weapons and the additional items at $8,687.35.
