Wendell Young

1930-2010

     Wendell R. Young, 79, of Blissfield, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010 at his home.

     Wendell was born on Sept. 27, 1930 in Deerfield, the son of David and Helen (Keeley) Young. He graduated from Blissfield High School in 1948, and was married on June 26, 1954 to Patricia Ford.

    Wendell served in the US Marine Corp from 1952 until 1960, and worked as a welder at Service Tectonics Inc. in Adrian, as well as farming on the family farm. He served as a leader of the North Blissfield Busy Beavers 4-H group, and was Superintendent at the Lenawee County Fair’s Beef Barn. Wendell also served as Assistant Chief on the Palmyra Fire Department. Wendell was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blissfield, the Knights of Columbus, the Blissfield VFW Post 10912, and the Blissfield American Legion Post 325.

     Surviving are two children, Cathy (Terry) Horky of Goodyear, AZ, and Paul (Beth) Young of Blissfield; 7 grandchildren, Ryan and Craig Horky of Lansing, Keri Young of Adrian, Shawn Young of Blissfield, Erin Young of Assumption, OH, and Alexander and Patrick Young of Blissfield; and two sisters, Ilah Ost of Adrian, and Mary Genavive VanVleet of Maybe, MI. Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, wife Pat Young, infant daughter Cynthia, and sister Marge Iott.

     A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m.at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Blissfield, with Fr. Jack Loughran officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Blissfield. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield. A Rosary Service will be held Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Blissfield VFW.

     Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Peter Catholic Church, or to the Lenawee County Junior Livestock Board. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
