RIGA – Russell R. Bierman, 89, of Riga, died on Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Ebeid Hospice facility in Sylvania, Ohio. He was born in Blissfield, Michigan, on February 10, 1922, the son of Dennis and Dora (Love) Bierman. He graduated from Blissfield High School in 1941.
He married his high school sweetheart, Arlene Smith, on December 13, 1941.
Russell was a farmer all his life. In the winters he drove milk truck, fuel oil delivery truck, school bus, and he especially enjoyed the sports team trips. For the last 20 years, Russell and Arlene built and provided train rides for kids at numerous festivals and events. Russell and Arlene enjoyed many years with numerous camping clubs.
He is survived by his loving wife, Arlene of 70 years; son, Dennis (Briana) Bierman of Hawaii; daughters, Lynette (Dick) Million of Addison; Lynda (Dave) Yinger of Riga; five grandchildren, Kandy, Tammy, Dustin, Brooke, Cory; seven great grandchildren, Chelsea, Andrew, William, Elizabeth, Gretchen, Lucas and Abbigail.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 29, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Wagley Funeral Home Tagsold Chapel with Pastor Martin Zimmann officiating. Burial will follow at Riga Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Contributions may be made to either Trinity Lutheran Church or Great Lakes Home Health Care.
