Patriots Win First Conference Game Since 2008

BD beats up on Whitmore Lake

WHITMORE LAKE – Last year, the Britton Deerfield varsity football started with two wins and then went 0-7 in the Tri-County Conference. So after starting 2-0 this season, and then dropping two straight TCC games, the importance of Friday’s 44-12 win over Whitmore Lake is hard to over state.

“It’s been a long time since this program has had a league win,” said second year coach DJ Lutz, “so getting that one Friday was a stepping stone in the right direction.”

Britton-Deerfield is 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the Tri-County Conference. It’s the first time since 2002 that B-D has had a winning record after five weeks of football.

QB Andrew Prielipp completed 11 of 14 passes for 172 yards and three touchdowns. He also threw one interception. His favorite target was Josh Hoffman, who made four catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Austin Miller caught three passes for 32 yards and a touchdown.

BD also had its first big game on the ground. Jacob Warner ran 24 times for 174 yards and two touchdowns. Brock Prain rushed six times for 76 yards and a touchdown. Brady Southward scored on an 86 yard kickoff return.

Defensively, Josh Reau made 10 tackles, including three for a loss. Allen Okoney made six tackles and picked off a pass. Josh Hoffman and Brock Prain each sacked the quarterback once.

BD is home to Whiteford (3-2, 2-1 TCC) Friday for the Deerfield homecoming game.

Lutz doesn’t want to settle for one win in the TCC.

“We are not satisfied with getting that one. We want more. We feel we let our two (TCC) losses slip away (tot Morenci and Clinton) with poor execution most of the night. We vowed not to let that happen again,” Lutz said. “As we sit a 3-2, we have one goal in mind, and that is getting number four against Whiteford.”
