Maida K. Thompson, 90, of Palmyra passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at the Blissfield Place under the care of the Hospice of Lenawee. She was born on February 21, 1921, in Palmyra Twp., Michigan, the daughter of Robert and Elma (White) Rau.
Maida graduated from Adrian High School in 1938 and went to work for Montgomery Wards. She was united in marriage to Ernest A. Thompson on December 6, 1941, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Riga. Maida was a hard working wife and mother. While raising her family she worked at Faraday Industries in Tecumseh, Genter Trucking as a truck driver and also for Hurdlock during World War II. When there was time in between jobs, Maida was working the family farm with Ernest.
She is a past member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, she served as a 4-H Mother in Lenawee County and she loved making crafts, which included painting and crocheting in her spare time.
Surviving are her children, Robert (Judy) Thompson of Palmyra, James (Becky) Thompson of Palmyra, Mary (Curtis) Sawade of Lambertville and Dean Thompson of Palmyra; 9 grandchildren, Dan, Buddy (Vicki), Marlene, James, Duane (Tabitha), Kyla (Steve), Keri (Shawn), Kyle and Merissa and many great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sons, Duane and Roger Thompson, a sister, Marvel Knisel and 2 brothers, Lawrence and Leland Rau.
Funeral services for Maida will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Wagley Funeral Home, Tagsold Chapel in Blissfield with Rev. Aden Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Palmyra Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 3, 2011, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
