Lois Yost

1/20/1916-12/21/2011

Lois Mildred Chesnut was born at home on January 20, 1916, in Reeseville, Ohio, Clinton County; the second child of Howard Wesley Chesnut and Ada Florence (Brown) Chesnut; raised during the Depression with siblings, Charles and Mary (Babe).
When Lois graduated from the 12th grade from Wayne School in Lees Creek, Ohio, she did not have the benefit of electricity, as it was not yet available in the rural and farming areas where her family resided.
On September 28, 1936, Lois married Richard (Dick) Jacob Yost in Richmond, Indiana. Dick was drafted into the Army in 1943, and ended up serving at the base in Martinsburg, West Virginia, as a surgical technician. There on the base, Lois first worked in the dental clinic as a dental assistant, and then was put in charge of the art department, making and painting acrylic masks for soldiers who suffered facial injuries during the war. Sometime later, Lois was informed, some masks were sent to the Pentagon.
Over the years, Lois was involved in many art projects, especially the painting of animals and floral.
Lois was a grammarian, who loved the English language, and was always building her vocabulary. She was also known for her frugalness, as a conservator of the earth’s resources, and not wanting to see anything wasted.
At one time, Lois and her husband lived in Monclova, Ohio, where they raised Beagle dogs, and for several years were involved in local Beagle trials, where Dick was a trial judge.
Together, Lois and Dick raised two children, Edward and Cynthia. They enjoyed traveling, boating, snowmobiling, living on Crystal Lake; and in retirement, spent many winters in Florida.
Lois and Dick moved to Blissfield, Michigan, in 1986. Lois said many times she was so glad they eventually landed in Blissfield, as everyone was so friendly and helpful, and she so enjoyed living along the river.
Lois left this earth 12/21/2011 from Bixby Hospital.
She was predeceased by her parents, siblings, Charles F. Chesnut, and Mary M. (Chesnut) Cultice; husband, Richard in 1993; and son, Edward.in 2006.
Lois is survived by daughter, Cynthia and husband, Gary Tobias of Xenia , Ohio; brother, Jack Chesnut; grandchildren, Jacob and Jessica Tobias, and Brandon and Cheyenne Yost; three great grandchildren; along with a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family, including Clifford and Christine Buehrer of Palmyra, MI.
