Whiteford 29, Britton Deerfield 28

Whiteford kept its post-season hopes alive, beating Britton-Deerfield 29-28 in an overtime thriller. Whiteford improved to 4-2 and 3-1 in the TCC. The Bobcats visit unbeaten Summerfield next week. BD fell to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the TCC. BD visits Madison next week. For game stats, click here.

Whiteford struck on its second possession of the when Gabe LaRoy tossed a short, 3-and-16 pass to Cody Donnelly. Donnelly raced down the sideline and somersaulted into the end zone as he was hit for a 6-0 lead. Whiteford scored again midway through the second quarter. Brian Tabbert smashed through the BD defense for a 13-yard TD run. LaRoy’s keeper on the two-point play made it 14-0.

Whiteford led 21-0 early in the third quarter after an 8-yard run by Donnelly and a kick by Austin Bischoff. But BD turned things around on the next play when Kray Sweinhagen returned a kickoff for an 81-yard TD. BD’s defense came up big and got the ball back at its own 35. BD marched down the field in seven plays, with Jake Warner running it in from nine yards out. Andrew Prielipp’s kick made it 21-14.

BD’s defense came up big again, forcing a three and out near the end of the third. QB Andrew Prielipp engineered an effective drive down the field. He completed a 4th-and-10 pass to Jacob Warner to give BD the ball at the Whiteford six. But Whiteford’s defense held its ground. George Vergote, Derek Marckel and Forrest Grosteffon came up with big tackles to keep BD out of the end zone.

BD was down 21-14 when it got the ball back at its 20 with 1:46 to play. Prielipp completed to passes to Josh Hoffman to get BD to midfield. On 3rd-and-10 with 1:06 to play, a short sideline pass to Sweinhagen was good for an eight-yard gain. A late hit by a Whiteford player tacked on 15 more yards. On the next play, Prielipp passed to Brady Southward for a 13 yard gain and a first down at the Whiteford 20. On the next play, Prielipp stopped the clock by spiking the ball. A second down pass was incomplete. On third down, Prielipp was forced to scramble for a five yard gain. With the clock ticking, on 4th-and-5 from the 15, Prielipp completed a short pass to Eli Browning, who ran it in to make it 21-20 with 13.1 seconds left. Whiteford nearly blocked Prielipp’s kick, which sent the game into overtime.

BD had the first crack at scoring from 10-yards out. After an incomplete pass and a one yard run by Jacob Warner, Prielipp completed a pass to Eli Browning for a TD pass. The kick made it 28-21.

Whiteford nearly lost the game on its first offensive play in overtime. LaRoy’s pass into the corner of the end zone was nearly picked off by Southward, but he couldn’t hold on to the ball as he was hit in mid-air. On second down, LaRoy was chased out of bounds for a one-yard gain when he couldn’t find anyone open. Whiteford struck gold on third down, when LaRoy found Grant Track all alone in the end zone.

Instead of trying to kick the extra point, coach Matt Garno elected to go all-or-nothing. LaRoy passed to Forrest Grosteffon to convert the two-point play as Whiteford won the game.

Onsted 40, Blissfield 14

The Wildcats rushed for 263 yards and limited the Royals (4-2, 2-2 LCAA) to 56 yards on the ground. Freiberger rushed for three TDs and 109 yards and Spears ran for three TDs and 99 yards to lead Onsted (5-1, 3-1 LCAA). For game stats, click here.

Eric Schmidt completed 10 of 19 passes for 125 yards for the Royals.  He threw a 60-yard TD pass to Garrick May and was picked off four times. Dalton Goetz rushed for a TD for the Royals. Blissfield hosts Erie Mason (0-6, 0-4 LCAA) for its homecoming game next week.

Hudson 52, Erie Mason 0

The unbeaten Tigers (6-0, 4-0) clinch a playoff spot against the winless Screaming Eagles (0-6, 0-5). Hudson has clinched at least a tie for the LCAA and can win it next week when it plays Ida.

Dundee 47, Ida 20

The Vikings upset the Blue Streaks at Ida. Dundee improved to 3-3 and 2-2 in the LCAA. Ida lost its second straight game to fall to 3-3 and 2-2 in the LCAA.

Summerfield (6-0, 4-0) won the battle of the TCC’s unbeaten teams and clinched a playoff spot. Morenci fell to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the TCC.

Clinton 47, Madison 0

Clinton won its second straight league game to improve to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the TCC. Madison is 0-6.

Sand Creek 48, Whitmore Lake 6

With the most difficult part of the season behind them, the Aggies roll to victory. Sand Creek (2-4, 2-2) still have a chance at a winning season. Whitmore Lake is winless.
