Another Friday night is in the books. The local teams did OK last night. Blissfield and BD picked up wins, but the Bobcats lost.
Eric May and I both went 6-1 with our TCC/LCAA picks. I got the Whiteford game wrong. Eric got the BD game wrong.
Here are the games:
Blissfield 22-19
Tran’s pick: Blissfield 30-23
Eric’s pick: Blissfield 28-20
I’ve been saying since the start of the season that the Royals needed one of those close, hard-fought games against a good team. They got it this week. Moreover, it’s been a long time since the Royals had a dramatic, come-from-behind win. Those kinds of victories are confidence builders as the season goes on. Estes isn’t thinking about it, but this game had huge playoff implications.
Clinton 38, Whiteford 19
Tran’s pick: Whiteford 27, Clinton 22
Eric’s pick: Clinton 32, Whiteford 14
Whiteford could have paved its path to the playoffs with this one. Instead, the Bobcats will need to bust their way in. Coaches don’t look ahead, but I do. And the Whiteford-Morenci game is shaping up as big, big game. Watch out for BD’s passing attack next week, though.
Britton Deerfield 44, Whitmore Lake 12
Tran’s pick: BD 31, Whitmore Lake 8
Eric’s pick: Whitmore Lake 8, BD 6
Haven’t received the stats yet, but I figured this was BD’s game to win. The Patriots are 3-2. You’ve got to back to 2002 to see a BD team that was 3-2 after five games. It’s hard to envision a scenario where BD makes it to six wins. But they can drum up excitement by beating Whiteford on during Friday’s homecoming game at Deerfield.
Morenci 51, Madison 0
Tran’s pick: Morenci 35, Madison 7
Eric’s pick: Morenci 42, Madison 6
Morenci has a three game winning streak. But they’ve accomplished this during a soft part of the schedule. Things get real for Morenci, from here on out.
Hudson 37, Dundee 14
Tran’s pick: Hudson, 35-20
Eric’s pick: Hudson, 38-20
No surprises here. The Tigers will hold on to their #1 ranking in Division 7.
Onsted 47, Mason 6
Tran’s pick: Onsted, 44-6
Eric’s pick: Onsted, 56-0
The Wildcats roll to victory and set up a battle with Blissfield for second place in the LCAA.
Summerfield 20, Sand Creek 0
Tran’s pick: Summerfield, 30-14
Eric’s pick: Summerfield, 35-14
Nothing happened that might suggest Summerfield isn’t going to roll to an undefeated season.
