LILLIAN, Ala. — Donald Bettis, 90, of Lillian, Alabama went home to be with his Lord on Monday, November 7, 2011.
He was born in Riga, Michigan, to Lee and Ella Bettis and graduated from Blissfield High School, Blissfield, Michigan in 1938. Later he served his country by enlisting in the Navy during WWII.
Donald married Madonna Untreiner Blanks on November 7, 1954 who preceded him in death in 2005.
After his retirement from Dixie Waste Paper Company in Greenville, S.C., he and Madonna moved to Lillian AL where he became a Chaplain with Fishers of Men Ministries at the Ports of Pensacola, FL and Mobile, AL.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lowell; wife, Madonna; sons, Don Lee Bettis and Tom Blanks.
He is survived by his son, Jim Bettis (Jenny) of Milton, FL; daughter, Susan Turkington (Don) of Salem, OR; daughter-in-law, Carol Jackson of Sylvania, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews as well as many friends from around the world.
The funeral service for Donald was at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South with Pastor Jerald Manley and Pastor Wayne Mund officiating. Interment followed at St. John’s Cemetery, Pensacola, Florida.
The family received friends at Faith Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2011 and 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 12, 2011.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Fishers of Men Ministries International, Bon Secour, AL or Covenant Hospice of Daphne, AL.
Faith Chapel Funeral Home South, 100 Beverly Pkwy, is in charge of arrangements.
