Council approves L&W, BioDri requests

Here are some quick notes from tonight’s Blissfied Village Council meeting:

·         For 20-plus years, the village has enjoyed free recycling services. That’s about to change. The company that provides the service is talking about charging for it. So council is considering other options, including a service that would include home pickup of trash weekly, and recyclables every other week. It would cost money of course. Village administrator Jim Wonacott is looking into it.
·         Council approved L&W’s request for a tax abatement by a 6-0 vote. President Jae Guetschow was late.
·         Council approved the BioDri CDBG funding application which ties into grant for a facility. The thought is that BioDri would use the old industrial park facility purchased in auction by Pat Farver a couple years ago.
·         Council unanimously approved a rezoning request for East Jefferson Street. The zoning of 411 E. Jefferson has been changed from C-3 General Commercial District to R-2 One Family Residential.
·         Council unanimously approved more expenses related to the power outage/waste water treatment incident from February. The grand totals for contractor repairs is $25,641.
·         Council unanimously approved which would see the installation of a 48-by-100-foot outdoor ice rink. Blissfield Rotary has agreed to reimburse the village for the purchase. The seasonal rink would be placed at Ellis Park near the basketball courts. The rink would be installed each winter and taken down in spring. The cost for the rink, hockey nets, fire pits and rope lighting is $7,500.
·         Council unanimously approved a resolution that ties into its expected application for the Michigan Main Street Program.
·         Council voted 6-1 to allow the Main Street Application to use to village’s logo on its material. Mike Gunter voted against the motion.
·         Council went in executive session to talk about the sale or lease of property.e
