Blissfield varsity football coach Ron Estes doesn’t measure his team’s success in wins and losses – and that may be just the reason why the program has thrived under his direction. This year, as every year, Estes plans to build a team of tough, disciplined and unified athletes.

Estes has been molding his team all summer. His athletes run and lift weights religiously. The summer’s conditioning peaks at Sauk Valley Sports Resort, where the team spends three days performing grueling drills and exercises, including the running of the infamous Hill. The athletes emerge a fit and cohesive unit, much more prepared for those fourth-quarter challenges that decide games.
“They were one of our hardest-working groups,” said Estes as the team loaded up the bus on the last day of camp. “Effort was never a problem. I think we have some kids that are in really good shape.”
Estes expects the camp to be an experience his players can call on in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.
