Butch Gunter

          Arthur Day “Butch” Gunter, 72, of Blissfield, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010 at his home. 

        Butch was born on Nov. 13, 1937 in Malta, Montana, the son of Arthur and Helen (Miller) Gunter Sr. He served in the US Army from 1961 to 1967, and worked as a police officer for the Village of Blissfield for 35 years, serving as chief from 1981 until retiring in 2002.
        Butch was a member of the Blissfield Lions Club, the Blissfield VFW, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting. On his off duty days, Butch was often found doing carpentry work for various friends around town. Butch was a great friend to many of the people of Blissfield, and will be greatly missed.
        Surviving are four children, Jason (Jennifer) Gunter of Blissfield, Ken (Michiko) Gunter of Maple Grove, Minn., Mike Gunter of Blissfield, and Holly (Steve) Koester of Palmyra. Also surviving are sisters Doris (Robert) Bussing of Blissfield, Sandra Governo of Toledo, and brother Robert (Lynn) Brubaker of Toledo; three grandchildren, Madison and Allison Koester, and Emma Gunter, and special friend Liz Siefert. Butch was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Gunter Sr., mother Helen Gunter Brubaker, and step father Ken Brubaker.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Elem3nt Church in Blissfield, with Rev. Keith Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Blissfield, with military honors conducted by the Blissfield VFW. Visiting hours will be Saturday from 4-8 p.m., and Sunday from 2-8 p.m. at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arthur Gunter Scholarship Fund, with the proceeds to be used for Butch’s granddaughter’s college educations. Envelopes will be available at the Tagsold Funeral Home, and at the Elem3nt Church.
