Every year the Riga Day celebration gets a little bigger. But, now in its third consecutive year it still remains an event to encourage the small community to get together and enjoy they day.

Sisters Leann Rose and Cindy Miller were very instrumental in getting the community event off the ground and organizing some activities. The event includes community-wide garage sales, a breakfast at the Municipal Building sponsored by the Riga Township Fire Department, some entertainment and crafters in the park adjacent to the municipal building.
Miller said the idea was just to have something fun to do.  It started with the garage sales. “It was an idea for getting out and seeing people.”
Miller said the pancake breakfast in Riga starts at 8 a.m. and lasts until noon.  She said that garage sales will also start in the morning as well.  Since the Bluegrass festival doesn’t start until 2 p.m. Miller said she hopes that there will be a progression of people from Riga to Blissfield.
Besides garage sales throughout the Riga community there is also the opportunity for people to set up sales in the park by the municipal building.
This year there will also be crafters at the park, Miller said.
The Blissfield Band Boosters will also be selling pizza kits which is their annual fundraiser at the park, Miller said.
The New beginnings 4-H group will also be around selling water, Rose said.
Bill Mehan will also be at the fire hall and the park possibly playing his accordion.
Miller said there is still a possibility of a couple of other area musicians participating.
There is no charge for crafters or sellers to set up in the park either.
“We’re small,” Miller said, “we aren’t going to turn anybody away.
There will also be a free face painting booth for children at the park, Miller said.
