Recall election previewed

Ogden, Riga townships to vote

There are two sides to every issue, as the old adage goes, and next Tuesday voters in Ogden Township and Riga Township will have the opportunity to vote either yes or no to recall some of their elected township officials.

In Riga Township, supervisor Jefferee Simon is on a recall ballot while in Ogden Township both supervisor James Goetz and clerk Phyllis Gentz are facing a recall vote.  All three were targeted by citizens who question many aspects of the potential wind farms slated for the area.  At least three different companies have looked at Riga, Ogden and other neighboring townships as potential sites for wind turbines. The controversy over the potential wind-turbine installations has spurred questioning of township board members’ actions in two of the townships resulting in three local officials facing the recall vote.
The polls in both townships will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday.  Riga Township voters will vote at the Riga Township Hall while Ogden Township voters will vote at the Ogden Township Hall.  The Ridgeway Township clerk will oversee the Ogden Township election.
