The Blissfield American Legion Post 325 baseball team claimed the District title with a pair of wins over Adrian Post 275 Saturday morning at Adrian College’s Nicolay Field. Both teams advance to this weekend’s Zone tournament.
In its first game Thursday afternoon, Blissfield defeated Ann Arbor Post 46 12-1. Mike Panonone was the winning pitcher in relief of Eric Schmidt, who pitched the first three innings.
In round two, Blissfield Post 325 lost 3-2 to Adrian Post 275 in 11 innings of play.
On Friday, Blissfield first toppled Brooklyn Post 315 4-1, with pitcher Dave McCormick picking up the win.
Blissfield then went on to beat Ida Post 514 8-3. Schmidt pitched all nine innings, striking out 13 batters.
In Saturday’s double-header against Adrian, Blissfield claimed a narrow 6-5 victory in the opener.
In the runaway final game, Blissfield downed Adrian 11-1 in seven innings. Panonone notched another pitching win.
The Zone tournament begins Thursday morning, when Blissfield faces St. Joseph. Adrian will play against Ida, and the winners will face off at 6 p.m.
