Three-time All-State pitcher Eric Schmidt represented the Blissfield Royals for the last time June 21 at Comerica Park. Schmidt held his own among the best players in the state to help the West to a 9-5 victory in the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association East-West All-Star Classic.

“It was amazing to play at Comerica Park,” said Schmidt. “When I first got there, I just had to take it all in before I could focus on what I had to do. ... It was surreal at first. That was the biggest crowd I’ve played in front of.”
Schmidt was one of five pitchers for the West. He was put on the mound in the top of the fifth. Despite facing some of Michigan’s heaviest hitters, he pitched a scoreless inning, allowing just one hit.
In his only at-bat, Schmidt hit an RBI single.
Schmidt’s father, Ron Schmidt, pitched in the MHSBCA East-West All-Star Classic in 1986. He says he and his wife, Barbara, are proud of Eric’s accomplishments.
