GIRLS’ SOFTBALL ACTION April 20, 2011, edition of The Advance
BLISSFIELD — The Royals bested the Adrian Maples twice in a double header last Tuesday. A series of errors by Adrian helped Blissfield win 7-2 and 5-3.
Wednesday evening Blissfield lost both games against Tecumseh, 9-1 and 4-1. In the first game, Chelsea Bateson was 2-3. Sauter struck out five batters. In the second game, pitcher Kelsie Abbott struck out five Indians and walked none.
BRITTON DEERFIELD — The Britton-Deerfield softball team destroyed Whitmore Lake in a double-header on Friday. The Patriots beat the Trojans 20-2 in game one and 17-7 in game two.
WHITEFORD — Two losses and one win were the results last week for Whiteford’s softball team. On Monday, April 11, the Lady Bobcats fell to Clinton, 12-2, in a five-inning game.
However, things took a turn for the better on Wednesday, April 13, when the Lady Bobcats went head-to-head with Whitmore Lake in their second Tri-County Conference game of the season. They took out Whitmore Lake 11-0 in five innings.
Friday saw a difficult game for the Bobcats, not just in scoring but in weather conditions. That afternoon Whiteford faced Summerfield on the Bulldogs field with temperatures dipping down to the low 40s, along with horrible gusting winds which caused a metallic advertising sign fastened to the fence in the outfield to be torn away. In the end, Summerfield kept command of their home field and toppled Whiteford 8-2.
