Council inks 10-year deal with D&P

The Blissfield Village Council voted unanimously Monday evening to enter into a new 10-year franchise agreement with cable provider D&P Cable.

Whereas the village formerly charged D&P a 3-percent annual gross revenue fee, it will now charge 5 percent, the maximum amount allowed by the State of Michigan. Village Administrator Jim Wonacott said the change would increase annual revenue to the village by approximately $9,300.
The council also voted unanimously to accept an agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation regarding the funding of this year’s U.S. 223 streetscape improvement project. The agreement says 67 percent of the estimated $834,900 project cost will be paid by Federal Surface Transportation Enhancement Funds, while the village will pay the remainder. Improvements will be made between the River Raisin to Elm Street and will include “concrete sidewalk replacement, installation of decorative lighting, and tree planting.”
Later the council voted unanimously not to reduce village employee fringe benefits, despite the rising costs of health insurance.
