As it stands now, the calendar year for Blissfield Community Schools will be extended by five days. The announcement was made at the Monday night board of education meeting.
Superintendent Scott Moellenberndt made the recommendation to extend the year to June 17, due to the numerous amount of school cancellations and delays. The ice storm last month, which left most of Blissfield without power played the biggest factor in the cancellations.
However, Moellenberndt stressed the extension is not concrete.
“If you look at the weather report just for this remaining week,” he said, “there’s rain, possibly fog.” Those things, he said, could play a factor and may even prolong the wait for summer vacation even further.
A motion was made and the board voted unanimously to accept Moellenberndt’s recommendation.
