Former Blissfield resident and Blissfield High School graduate Meghann Eff is reportedly recovering in a Chicago area hospital after being struck by a hit and run driver on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, a police spokesman said.
According to Officer John MIrabelli, of the City of Chicago Police News Affairs division, a 28-year old woman was struck by a vehicle as she was crossing the street near 859 N. Michigan Ave. in the area of Pearson Ave. at about 3:40 a.m. Dec. 18. She suffered a broke arm and two broken legs, Mirabelli said.
MIrabelli would not release the name of the victim according to departmental policy.
According to Chicago news reports - which did say the victim was indeed Meghann Eff - she also suffered more serious injuries as well.
"The vehicle struck the victim and continued to leave the scene," Mirabelli said. The vehicle was spotted northbound and later seen eastbound on Chestnut Avenue.
A local news station reported a woman found Eff lying in the street and called 911 and stayed with her until help arrived.
The car was described as silver or gray in color but no real definitive information was obtained on the vehicle.
Mirabelli said she was taken to a Chicago area hospital but was responding.
The Major Accident Division of the Chicago Police were investigating the accident. Mirabelli said police are hoping to find witnesses or video that will give police a better idea of what happened on the street.
Mirabelli said it is very disturbing that someone would hit someone and leave them lying in the middle of the street and not even stop.
Police are doing making every effort to find the person responsible he said.
"To find the perpetrator, that is our mission."
