The new fire truck that the Blissfield Township Fire Department anticipates arriving the third week of January will cost slightly more than the originally stated price when the purchase was approved nearly two months ago.
The original price of the new 109-foot ladder truck for the township was $677,644. That amount was approved in a motion on Oct. 31. Shortly afterwards, Blissfield Township fire chief Gary Crist and Blissfield Township trustee Jason Fischer were among those who went to South Dakota to inspect the fire truck at the Rosenbauer facility in South Dakota. Changes were made to the truck totaling $16,213 bringing the final cost of the truck to $693,857. An invoice was submitted to the township board Dec. 13 by Crist for the total amount. The change and the invoice were not acted upon at the meeting. Payment for the truck is due upon delivery which is expected the third week of January.
Although it had been said there would likely be some changes made to the truck, nothing had been acted upon by the board to formally authorize the increased price.
