In an about-face the Blissfield Township Board reversed its earlier stance on purchasing a ladder truck and approved the purchase Monday morning of a 109-foot aerial ladder truck at a cost of $677,644 to the township. The township board voted 3-2 to approve the purchase. This truck is a different truck than originally proposed to the township in the summer. That truck was a 78-foot ladder truck that would have cost approximately $500,000.
The board had stated previously that they could not afford the fire truck even going so far as to put it in the July minutes that they could not purchase a fire truck. The voters of Blissfield Township had also turned down an additional millage request in May for .50 mills to purchase a truck by 265 yes to 333 no votes.
However, since that time the auditor had reversed an opinion that would allow the township to use operation funds for equipment.
