Marks, Clark elected in Ogden; Riga affirms wind ordinance

Ogden interim clerk and supervisor win seats

Ogden Township's interim supervisor and clerk earned their jobs for a full term Tuesday, Nov. 8, handily winning the seats they have held since being appointed after a recall of their predecessors. And in Riga Township, voters said "yes" to reaffirming the wind ordinance their township board passed this summer.

In Tuesday's election in Ogden Township, Richard Marks won the supervisor's seat he has filled on an interim basis since his predecessor was recalled earlier this year over challenger Kevin DeCatur by a vote of 309-177.

Interim township clerk Alice Clark retained her seat by a vote of 302-186 over challenger Carrie Hulett. Clark had been appointed as clerk after Ogden's clerk was recalled at the same time as the supervisor in an election fueled by the controversial proposal to create a "wind farm" of wind turbines in the township.

The vote on the wind ordinance in Riga Township was 440  "yes," 236 "no." Opponents of potential wind farm development in the township had praised the ordinance as adopted by the board. Proponents of wind turbines and wind developers said the ordinance was too restrictive to allow proposed wind farms to be constructed and sought Tuesday's referendum vote of the township's citizens. The "yes" affirmed the ordinance.

The LEDC millage proposal for industrial promotion in Lenawee County was turned down in Ogden Township by a vote of 129 yes, 333 no and in Riga Township 203 yes and 455 no. How the measure fared throughout the county isn't known at this writing.

A total of 489 votes were cast in Ogden Township.
