OTTAWA LAKE — Joel Crozier, a senior at Whiteford Agricultural Schools, has been named a National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist. More than 1,500,000 United States students who took the PSAT/NMSQT in October 2010 and met other program participation requirements entered the 2012 competition for the National Merit Program recognition and scholarships.
In April, 2011, Crozier was one of the 50,000 high scoring participants named. He is among the highest scorers in the state of Michigan. Later, in September of 2011, Joel was notified that he was one of 16,000 that qualified as a Semifinalist. This allows him to advance in the competition for National Merit Scholarships to be offered in 2012.
Crozier has completed a rigorous process to continue in the competition. A portion of this includes an essay as well as listing activities and accomplishments that enhance his test scores and grades.
In February, semi-finalists who meet academic and other requirements will be notified that they have been advanced to finalist standing.
Whiteford’s last National Merit Scholarship Finalist was Brittany Borck, from the graduating class of 2003.
