An idea among some members of a local church to provide local concert opportunities is coming to fruition in 2012.
The idea has been discussed for several years, Doug Case, a member of the Blissfield Presbyterian Church, said.
Case is one of nine people who have formed a citizen committee to bring the Blissfield Concert Series to life here in the village. The first concert entitled ”Celtic at the Kirk” is slated for 7 p.m. March 14 at the Presbyterian Church on Franklin Street.
So far the group has secured Highland bagpiper Kim Johnson and the group Foxtree from Ann Arbor that will be performing Celtic music. Also performing that evening will be the Presbyterian Church musical director and committee member Diana Maloney, Denny Thompson and Brian Barrus. The group is also seeking local youth talent to open the concert but the identity of that person is yet to be confirmed.
Case said the goal is have a concert once a quarter. A concert is scheduled for May entitled “Bach and Beethoven meet the Beatles at the Piano.
One of the needs that the committee has is funds. Case said so far the committee has put up personal funds and the Blissfield Rotary Club has donated $500 for the cause.
Anyone wishing to donate can do so by making donations to the Presbyterian Church, committee treasurer, Paula Saxton said. They only need to make a note that the money is to be used for the Blissfield Concert Series and donations are tax deductible.
More information on the performers is available on the group’s website blissfieldconcerts.org.
