A Blissfield wrestling team 28 men strong promises an exciting season this year, according to head coach Andy Ford. Some have their eyes set on the state finals at the Palace of Auburn Hills, while others are trying out for the first time.

“We’re looking really good,” said Ford. “We’ve got the most kids we’ve ever had come out for wrestling.”
Ford is excited to have six rookie wrestlers this year, including three seniors. He already has the team hard at work, getting his grapplers lean and mean. To supplement his notoriously tough workout regimen, Ford has them conditioning in the early morning.
“The kids are lifting before school two times a week,” said Ford. “I’m just really excited about the effort everyone’s been putting in.”
Most of the Royals’ depth is in weight classes 130 pounds and up. Below 130, there is just one wrestler in each class.
“We need to work on getting some of the lighter guys out,” said Ford. “We’ve got the whole offensive line wrestling. Now we’ve got to get some of the backfield.”
