Ogden Township fills seats

Moratorium on wind extended

In a regular monthly meeting last Tuesday evening, the Ogden Township board appointed two interim board members and extended a moratorium on wind energy development.

The first order of business was to elect an interim supervisor to fill the vacancy left by former supervisor James Goetz, who was recalled in a special Aug. 2 vote. Board trustee Richard Marks was selected.
The board then elected Ogden resident Alice Clark as the interim clerk, serving in place of recalled clerk Phyllis Gentz.
Marks and Clark will serve until the Nov. 8 election, when Ogden Township voters will elect a supervisor and clerk. The Lenawee County Democratic and Republican parties are in the process of selecting nominees for the positions. Marks is seeking the Republican nomination. The parties must name their candidates by Friday.
With Marks’ trustee position open, the board appointed Russell Mead to fill his seat. Trustee Rick Dennison dissented, saying the board should wait to hear from more people who may be interested in the position. Mead will serve through the remainder of Marks’ term, which ends in 2012.
The five-member board’s first action was to place another six-month moratorium on wind energy development. The moratorium already in place is set to expire Sept. 17.
